Tata Motors is set to reintroduce the iconic Sierra SUV in the second half of 2025, offering both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants. This move aligns with Tata’s strategy to expand its premium SUV lineup and cater to diverse consumer preferences.

A Modern Revival of a Classic

The Sierra EV will debut first, built on Tata’s Gen2 Acti.EV platform, which also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. This architecture supports dual-motor configurations, potentially providing the Sierra EV with all-wheel-drive capabilities.

Following the EV, the ICE variant will launch, based on the new ATLAS platform—Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle. This platform accommodates various body styles and supports 4×4 capabilities, marking Tata’s return to 4×4 ICE SUVs since the discontinuation of the Safari Storme in 2020.

Powertrain and Performance

  • Sierra EV: Expected to feature battery options ranging from 45 kWh to 60 kWh, offering a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The EV will support DC fast charging and may include both single and dual-motor setups for enhanced performance.
  • Sierra ICE: Anticipated to come with a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine producing approximately 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-liter diesel engine delivering around 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Both engines are expected to be paired with manual and automatic transmission options.

Design and Features

The Sierra retains its signature design elements, such as the distinctive side glass, while incorporating modern features like LED light bars, flush-fitting door handles, and large diamond-cut alloy wheels. Inside, the SUV is expected to offer a spacious cabin with options for 4 and 5-seater configurations, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and advanced infotainment systems.

Safety and Technology

Safety features are anticipated to include multiple airbags, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera. Technological enhancements may feature connected car technology, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly Level 2 ADAS capabilities.

Pricing and Market Positioning

The Sierra EV is expected to be priced between ₹25 lakh and ₹30 lakh, positioning it competitively within the premium electric SUV segment. The ICE variant is anticipated to start around ₹11 lakh, making it an attractive option for traditional SUV enthusiasts.

With the reintroduction of the Sierra, Tata Motors aims to blend nostalgia with modern innovation, offering a versatile SUV that caters to both eco-conscious consumers and those preferring conventional powertrains.
