Authorities said that 12 people were injured, six of them badly, when an attacker stabbed them at Hamburg’s central train station.
Police say the individual used a knife to attack people on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 of the station.
In a statement on the social media site X, they stated that a suspect had been taken into custody but provided no other information.
Three individuals were critically hurt, while six others suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Hamburg’s fire department. It is believed that the attack occurred on Friday at approximately 18:00 local time (17:00 BST) at Hamburg’s Central Station.
Germany has seen three knife attacks this week.
This is the most recent stabbing to occur in Germany in the last week.
A Syrian-born man attacked five people in their 20s at a bar in the western city of Bielefeld early on Sunday morning, injuring four of them critically. The 35-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with four counts of attempted murder.
Due to their belief that the incident “was religiously motivated and is to be understood as an attack on the free democratic basic order,” federal prosecutors have taken over the investigation.
Meanwhile, in Berlin, a 13-year-old kid was taken into custody on Friday after he allegedly attacked another 12-year-old student at a school in the Spandau neighborhood the previous day.
